Recently, a master class on Foreign Patent Business presented by Guangdong Overseas Intellectual Property Protection Promotion Association and Guangdong Patent Agency Association opened in Guangdong. Gary Cheng, Foreign Business department manager of Sunshine IP International, taught over 150 individuals from all across China with varying position titles, including departmental managers of Intellectual Property Agencies and administrators of IP managing companies on the national, provincial, and state scale.
The master class mainly involves delineating a framework for national intellectual property development; there was an emphasis on foreign intellectual property application, risks, operation, and strategy. A focal point of the course was European patents, where Mr. Cheng outlined the European patent application procedures, patent rejection laws, acceleration and authorization processes, patent grants, and made a comparison to the Chinese patent system.
