On January 18th, SIPO have published its 2017 annual report in Beijing.

In 2017, China's invention patent applications reached to 1.382 million, an increase of 14.2%. A total of 0.42 million invention patents were granted, among which 327,000 were domestic invention patents, an increase of 8.2%.

In 2017, the top 10 enterprises (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) for the number of invention patents granted in China were: State Grid Corporation of China (3,622), Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (3,293), China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (2,567) , BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd. (1,845), ZTE Corporation (1,699), Lenovo (Beijing) Co., Ltd. (1,454), Gree Electric Co., Ltd. (1,273), OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Co., Ltd.(1,222), PetroChina Company Limited (1,008), and SMIC (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (862).

In 2017, the State Intellectual Property Office received a total of 51,000 PCT patent applications, an increase of 12.5%. Among them, 48,000 were from China, an increase of 12.5%.

The Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce have published a “Detailed List of Trademark Applications and Registrations for Provinces, Autonomous Regions and Municipalities directly under the Central Government in 2017”.

Statistics show that in 2017, the top five provinces (municipalities) with the largest number of domestic applications were Guangdong (10,950,53), Zhejiang (546,987), Beijing (4,90086), Jiangsu (352,736), and Shanghai (343,879).

The top five provinces (municipalities) with effective registrations were Guangdong (2525055), Zhejiang (1544827), Beijing (1141776), Jiangsu (888601), and Shanghai (878460).
